While Roxy Music essentially broke up at the start of this decade - having performed on and off since 1972 - guitarist Phil Manzanera promised a box set covering the band's first album back in 2014. Now, it's one of the latest reissue announcements in a rapidly-filling 2018 release schedule. UMC will release a 3CD/1DVD version of the British art-rockers' debut on February 2. In addition to the original album (presented as mastered by Bob Ludwig in 1999), two discs of unreleased material will
Holiday Gift Guide Review: Ramones, "Rocket to Russia" [40th Anniversary Edition]
Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee, and Tommy Ramone introduced their fast and furious style of bubblegum punk on 1976's Ramones, then followed it up the next year with the even more potent Leave Home. Just months later, the band dropped its third major salvo. With Rocket to Russia, the sound and feel of the band's first two albums was taken to the next level - and now, forty years later, it's often recognized as the finest Ramones set. Happily, Rhino has continued its series of LP-sized, hardcover

Review: Big Country, 'We're Not In Kansas (The Live Bootleg Box Set 1993-1998)'
Everyone's got a band they love that just gets under their skin the way that others don't. Maybe they're loved by countless others around the world, maybe they've got a smaller but intense cult following - but when their music hits you, the air around you changes, you feel lighter, you want to share the feeling with your most loved and trusted friends. Big country is one of those bands for me. "In a Big Country," the band's sole U.S. Top 40 hit from 1983, had a profound impact on me as a

John Peel famously summed up his favorite band, The Fall, as such: "They are always different; they are always the same." The Fall's The Singles 1978-2016 will collect the sides issued by the group during those years on a number of labels, most notably Rough Trade, Beggars Banquet and Cherry Red itself, the group's current label

World Turning: Fleetwood Mac To Expand Self-Titled 1975 Album
Over the last few years, Fleetwood Mac and Warner Music have worked together to expand their most "classic rock" era--the albums recorded with the line-up of Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood between 1975 and 1987. After deluxe editions of Rumours, Tusk, Mirage and Tango In The Night, the group finally unites the chain with a new expansion of their self-titled 1975 album, the first to feature this line-up, due in January 2018. Before the album

Ten of the tracks were Top 40 hits on Billboard's Hot 100,

Iconoclastic singer Tom Waits is reissuing the latest part of his catalogue this winter. The titles will release roughly in reverse chronological order: 2011's Bad As Me streets next Friday,
One of a Kind: Bruford Brings Box Set
As the founding drummer of Yes and a prominent member of King Crimson in the 1970s, Bill Bruford was a key figure in the developing prog rock scene. Now, he's preparing a box set devoted to the first band he ever created: the aptly-titled Bruford. Seems Like a Lifetime Ago 1977-1980 will include Bruford's complete output, with some exciting extras as well. The group's first two albums, Feels Good to Me (1978) and One of a Kind (1979), have been newly remixed in both stereo and 5.1 surround by
Review: The Smiths, "The Queen Is Dead: Deluxe Edition"
The Smiths have been apart far longer than they were together in the mid-1980s, making the Manchester quartet today less of a band and more of an idea. It's interesting to see how a new deluxe edition of The Queen Is Dead (Warner Bros. 0190295783372), the group's most lauded album, interprets that thesis through its content and packaging. While the band may have made for a mere cult sensation in America, but in their native England (where success was fleeting but far more consistent), they

Review: David Bowie, "A New Career in a New Town: 1977-1982"
I. Art Decade Keep Up with David's Changes, read an insert from the David Bowie Fan Club packaged in original pressings of the artist's 1977 album Low and painstakingly replicated on the edition included in the new 11-CD (or 13-LP) box set A New Career in a New Town 1977-1982. Indeed, it was no small feat to follow the restless artist's many transformations. 1975's Station to Station saw the formal introduction of The Thin White Duke, a nattily-dressed but rather unpleasant fellow; who
