Perfect Sense: Legacy to Revisit Roger Waters’ "Amused to Death" with New Stereo and 5.1 Remixes

April 16, 2015 By Randy Fairman 3 Comments

Roger Waters Amused

While there has been no Pink Floyd reissue news for nearly a year now since the release of a deluxe edition of The Division Bell, fans can look forward to revisiting one of Rogers Waters’ solo projects with the newly announced reissue of Amused to Death. Death was released in 1992 and was Waters’ third solo outing after 1984’s The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking and 1987’s Radio K.A.O.S.  As is common for Waters’ LPs, it is a concept album.  The songwriter based it upon ideas from Neil

Let's Go Away For Awhile: The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" Comes To Blu-ray Audio

February 18, 2015 By Joe Marchese 7 Comments

beach boys standard pet sounds

“I figure no one is educated musically ‘til they’ve heard [Pet Sounds],” Paul McCartney once said of The Beach Boys’ classic, released 45 years and one week ago on May 16, 1966. George Martin concurred: “Without Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper wouldn’t have happened.” Brian Wilson poured his musical heart into the album’s thirteen tracks; in less than thirty-five minutes, he delivered an entire spectrum of emotions in a song cycle of striking beauty and sensitivity. Pet Sounds may initially have been

Sound Chaser: Steven Wilson Revisits Yes, Jethro Tull In Stereo and Surround

October 29, 2014 By Joe Marchese 6 Comments

When it comes to new surround-sound mixes, one name has become closely associated with the format: Steven Wilson. Keeper of the progressive-rock flame and frontman for Porcupine Tree, Wilson has in recent years created definitive 5.1 remixes for artists like King Crimson, Yes, XTC, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Gentle Giant, and Jethro Tull. It was recently announced that Wilson would be extending his talents to an upcoming reissue from (non-prog!) rock band Tears for Fears, and we can also confirm

The Allman Brothers Band's "Fillmore East" Goes Super Deluxe In New Box Set

July 16, 2014 By Joe Marchese 14 Comments

allman brothers fillmore box

2014 has been a year of upheaval for The Allman Brothers Band.  Following word that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks would be departing the venerable group at year's end, Gregg Allman confirmed that he, too, would stop touring after 2014 - effectively ending the band that bears his name.  Despite his claims that "this is the end of it," Allman has left the door open to reunions down the road. "Who's to say?," he pondered in the pages of Relix.  "We may get together every five years and just do one

Still Unforgettable: "The Extraordinary Nat King Cole" Collects Hits, Rarities, Unreleased Songs

June 2, 2014 By Joe Marchese 2 Comments

extraordinary nat king cole

The title of Capitol's upcoming Nat King Cole compilation is a simple but accurate one: The Extraordinary Nat King Cole. In his too-short 45 years, Cole transformed himself from an acclaimed jazz pianist to one of America's pre-eminent vocalists. His smooth-voiced baritone helped put Capitol Records on the map, and he broke down barriers previously unheard of for African-American entertainers. Cole's posthumous 1991 duet on "Unforgettable" with daughter Natalie Cole earned him a new generation
