Though only 24 years old, Mason had plenty of experience under his belt.  The multi-instrumentalist made a name for himself as part of Traffic, penning some of their best crossover material (“Hole in My Shoe,” “Feelin’ Alright?”).  He also participated in sessions with The Rolling Stones (playing the Indian instruments on “Street Fighting Man”) and Jimi…

Outlaw Man: Cherry Red, Morello Collect Four Albums from Singer-Songwriter David Blue

David Blue might be best-known for two things: writing “Outlaw Blues” on Eagles’ Desperado album, and being a friend and occasional sidekick of Bob Dylan’s. Yet he recorded seven albums (plus a major contribution to an eighth, the 1965 Elektra anthology Singer Songwriter Project) between 1965 and 1976 in addition to making appearances on stage and film before his untimely death in 1982. Cherry Red’s Morello imprint has recently celebrated the late folk troubadour with a four-albums-on-two-CDs set comprising one of his two Reprise LPs and three of his four Asylum sets….

If You Like Piña Coladas: “NOW” Series Celebrates Yacht Rock on New Volume

Shimmering guitars, breezy horns, smooth keyboards, and crisp vocals on well-crafted songs with catchy choruses: all of those qualities might have once described “soft rock” or “adult-oriented rock,” but more recently the genre has experienced a resurgence as “yacht rock.”  Though the term was originally intended in a pejorative way, it’s come to be accepted by many of the progenitors of the genre including Michael McDonald and John Oates.  There’s an entire book on the yacht rock phenomenon, a touring group known as The Yacht Rock Revue, and a popular yearly SiriusXM…

Something To Make You Happy: Cherry Red Reissues “Dave Mason and Cass Elliot”

Cherry Red has recently re-pressed a gem from two shining talents of the early ’70s Laurel Canyon scene: Dave Mason & Cass Elliot, a title that was previously released on their now-dormant Rev-Ola imprint in 2008. Both performers had made names for themselves previously, but when they met up for their one and only collaboration the results were a testament to their considerable musical skills. Dave Mason was no stranger to the music industry when he and Cass Elliot, of The Mamas and The Papas, released their 1971 self-titled album on Blue…
