roadrunner box set

One of the top labels in straight-up rock and heavy metal, Roadrunner Records, will celebrate their more than 30 years in the business with a new box set, XXX: Three Decades of Roadrunner Records, in October. From its inception in 1980, Roadrunner was often toward the forefront of metal, from traditional heavy and thrash metal in the 1980s and early 1990s to the fast-paced tracks and nu metal stylings of the late '90s. Along the way, they've opened up their roster to all kinds of hard rock,

rush thestudioalbums productshot

Last spring, the seemingly impossible happened: Canadian rock legends Rush were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neal Peart had long endured the snark and critical dismissal from the powers-that-be, proving themselves a solid prog rock outfit for the ages. It was the cherry on top of a delicious bounty of treats for fans in the past few years: deluxe editions of two of the band's most popular albums, Moving Pictures and 2112, box sets compiling the

yes close to the edge sacd

The audiophile specialist label Audio Fidelity has a busy March ahead, kicking off a new series of SACD releases and continuing its long-running series of 24k Gold compact discs. On March 5, the team at AF is scheduled to return to the high-resolution SACD format with two new hybrid stereo SACDs (playable on all CD players).   Yes’ 1972 album Close to the Edge was the fifth studio album from the progressive rock heroes.  Jon Anderson (vocals), Steve Howe (guitar/vocals), Chris Squire

rush 2112

2011 wasn’t a bad year to be a Rush fan, with the legendary Canadian band offering a deluxe edition of 1981’s Moving Pictures and three Sector box sets covering Rush’s entire 1974-1989 Mercury Records tenure.  Now, Geddy Lee (bass, keyboard, vocals), Alex Lifeson (guitar) and Neil Peart (drummer) are preparing to close out this year by celebrating 2112 (yes, 2112 in 2012!) in a variety of deluxe formats.  Amazon.com has confirmed December 18 as the release date for three editions of the classic

Paul McCartney is not dead, but he is digital: a new beta version of his website, developed with Hewlett-Packard, brings his solo catalogue to fans through a cloud service, along with a host of interactive features. Fans can stream all of his studio albums (including collaboration projects like The Fireman and Twin Freaks) through a jukebox, and premium members can download that jukebox as a desktop app. Additionally, a new "Rude Studio" section of his site allows fans to play and mix

some girls deluxe

Another Monday release date, ostensibly to get the jump on an abbreviated week with the Thanksgiving/Black Friday holiday! And it's another big week, to be sure. The Rolling Stones, Some Girls: Deluxe Edition (Rolling Stones/UMe) Whether you think it's the last truly great Stones album or not, it's hard to deny that this is the biggest of the deluxe releases this week. (That super-deluxe edition, with a bonus DVD and vinyl, doesn't disprove the notion, either.) Bob Seger, Ultimate Hits: Rock

Rush may be Canadian, but the classic rock trio has the perfect soundtrack for your Thanksgiving!  On November 21, Universal Music Enterprises will follow their acclaimed reissue earlier this year of 1981’s Moving Pictures with the release of three separate six-disc box sets.  Collecting the entire Rush output between 1974 and 1989, including both live and studio albums, the Rush Sector box sets span the entire historic Mercury Records tenure of Geddy Lee (bass, keyboard, vocals), Alex Lifeson

rush roll the bones

Earlier this year, Mercury celebrated 30 years of Rush's Moving Pictures with a deluxe edition including surround mixes and music videos. A more unexpected anniversary for Rush will be recognized next month when Audio Fidelity releases a 24k Gold CD of Roll the Bones, just in time for the platinum seller's 20th anniversary. The 1991 album, the 14th studio effort by Rush, was produced by the band and Rupert Hine (Tina Turner, Howard Jones) and became Rush's first Top 5 album in a decade. Audio

moving pictures deluxe edition cd blu ray

For fans of music in surround, every new release can be a cause for celebration. Surround music hasn't proliferated for years, but a small if steady flow keeps the torch burning over multiple formats. Last year saw the surprise launch of Rhino Handmade's Quadradisc series with classic quadraphonic titles arriving on DVD from Aretha Franklin and Chicago, while Tom Petty and UMe offered Damn the Torpedoes as a 5.1 Blu-Ray. King Crimson continued its 40th Anniversary Series on Inner Knot with a

With a new batch of reissues out in the U.K. and an upcoming retrospective exhibition running in London later this month, Queen's 40th anniversary campaign is going strong. The same week that said exhibition, Stormtroopers in Stilettos, opens at the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, Island will release a two-track downloadable single of "Keep Yourself Alive (Long Lost Retake)" b/w "Stone Cold Crazy." The A-side, from a proposed 1975 single in the U.S., was released on Hollywood Records' 1991
