Back in December, Real Gone Music released the 40th Anniversary Edition of Debby's Boone's platinum You Light Up My Life album. At that time it was also revealed that Boone's remaining Warner Bros./Curb Records albums were heading to CD for the first time as well. And now we have details on those releases. On April 6, Real Gone Music, in association with Curb Records, will release a pair of two-fer packages: Midstream/Debby Boone and Love Has No Reason/Savin' It Up. Both of these
Free Ride: Edgar Winter's Solo and Band Albums Collected on Two New Box Sets
With his long mane of white hair, Edgar Winter has long cut one of the most striking profiles in rock. Like his older brother Johnny, Texas-born Edgar was steeped in the blues. Emerging onto the scene with the 1970 Epic album Entrance, Winter fused blues with many of the styles with which he would become known, including rock, pop, soul, and jazz. Funk and even disco would come later, but one thing remained constant in whatever genre Edgar Winter was recording: virtuosic musicianship. A
COMING THIS FRIDAY! Second Disc, Real Gone Launch Johnny Mathis Series with "Sings Bacharach and Kaempfert," "Raindrops"
Today, the music of Johnny Mathis is more vibrant than ever. The eternally youthful "voice of romance" gained a whole new generation of fans in 2017 with an album featuring his recordings of future standards by Adele, Bruno Mars, and Pharrell Williams. At the dawn of the 1970s, Mathis was celebrating the great songwriters of that day, too. This Friday, March 2, Second Disc Records and Real Gone Music are proud to kick off a new series celebrating the legendary artist's classic albums of the
When Will I Be Loved: Morello Reissues Two Phil Everly Solo Albums Featuring Warren Zevon
The Everly Brothers' contribution to American popular song can hardly be overestimated. With hits like "Bye Bye Love," "Wake Up, Little Susie" and "When Will I Be Loved," brothers Don and Phil merged classic country and rock-and-roll into an influential whole, while their longing, ethereal vocal blend on "All I Have to Do is Dream" established them as timeless balladeers. At the beating heart of The Everly Brothers' sound was their deep respect for the music of the land, the rough-and-tumble,
Let Me Introduce You to the Family: Rhino U.K. Plans Reissues of Early Stranglers Catalogue
As British punk icons The Stranglers ready a tour through the United Kingdom in March, Rhino's U.K. division are planning a new set of definitive reissues of the band's first seven albums, originally released on United Artists and Liberty Records between 1977 and 1981. Due March 9, these single-disc remasters handily supplant a series of expansions issued in 2001, with even more bonus tracks present this time around. Rattus Norvegicus (1977), No More Heroes (1977), Black and White (1978),
In The Garden In the Moonlight: Real Gone's Limited Edition Vinyl Slate in April Includes Tiny Tim, Girlschool, Jack Kerouac and Scientist & Jammy

Both Scientist and

Welcome to Part Two of our Ace Records Round-Up! If you missed Part One's spotlight on releases from Clarence Carter and James Carr, just click here! Abe Tilmon, Iry Tilmon, and James Mitchell, a.k.a. It proved an auspicious start when their debut single, "Show Time," made No. 22 on the
Everybody Plays the Fool: SoulMusic, Cherry Red Collect The Main Ingredient's "Brotherly Love: The RCA Anthology"
When Cuba Gooding, Sr. passed away in April 2017, it marked the true end of an era for the venerable soul group The Main Ingredient. The Harlem-founded group had endured tragedy, personnel shifts, and the changing sound of music to prosper for decades, but the heart of the Main Ingredient remains in the group's RCA recordings. The recent 2-CD collection from Cherry Red's SoulMusic Records imprint, Brotherly Love: The RCA Anthology, brings together 41 tracks originally issued between 1970 and

Hey man, we've got some news for fans of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong: their breakthrough film, Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke, is being reissued on Blu-ray for its 40th anniversary - and a deluxe edition will feature a trifecta of reissued product from Rhino Records. Comedians Richard "Cheech" Marin and Tommy Chong had met in Canada during the '60s; Marin was there to evade the Vietnam War draft, while Chong, a native of the country, had been performing with his band, The Vancouvers. (The
Review: Nina Simone, "Mood Indigo: The Complete Bethlehem Singles"
Listeners experiencing 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Nina Simone's debut recordings for the first time might be taken aback at the ferocity and determination which mark these fourteen sides, compiled for the first time in complete form on CD as Mood Indigo: The Complete Bethlehem Singles (BMG 538320282). Those qualities distinguished this remarkable artist throughout a long and fiery career, but were thrillingly present at her very first sessions. Pianist-singer Simone began her

Review: Fleetwood Mac, 'Fleetwood Mac: Deluxe Edition'
Take away all the artifice and ephemera of the new deluxe edition of Fleetwood Mac's 1975 self-titled album (Reprise R2 559454) and you're still left with an intriguing and endlessly challenging question: how? How did a British blues band with only fleeting chart success in their home country metamorphose into one of the greatest rock bands of the 20th century's back half, architects of 18 Top 40 hits and eight platinum or multiplatinum records? And how did they do so with their ninth lineup? As

The band was also looking forward: Garage Days Re-Revisited featured vocalist/rhythm guitarist James Hetfield, lead guitarist

The "Wait" Is Over: Varese Returns Dave Grusin's "Heaven Can Wait" and "Racing with the Moon" to CD
For more than fifty years, Robert David Grusin - or Dave Grusin, as he's better known - has been making music to the tune of multiple Grammys and an Oscar, not to mention Golden Globes and various other honors. Grusin has successfully scored for motion pictures and kept a busy profile in pop, soul and jazz, co-founding GRP Records and encouraging compact disc technology at the dawn of the era. Back in 2013, Kritzerland delivered the world premiere soundtrack releases of two of the composer's

Sugar In My Bowl: Bethlehem, Rhino Plan Singles Collections Honoring Nina Simone
Few artists have had the impact on pop, soul, rock and jazz as the iconoclastic Nina Simone. Simone (1933-2003) played by her own rules in life and art, recording some of the most electric and eclectic music imaginable in any genre. It wasn't uncommon on a Simone album to find politically charged protest music alongside popular Broadway hits and reworkings of contemporary rock songs. This April, she will enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, though she preferred to call her singular fusion of

Intrada is set to make Disney fans p-p-p-pleased with a major soundtrack expansion: Alan Silvestri's stirring score to Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Gary K. Wolf's quirky novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? - the tale of a hard-boiled private detective named Eddie Valiant solving the murder of a comic strip character - was equal parts Raymond Chandler and Chuck Jones, and perfect film fodder. But nobody could have predicted what Who Framed Roger Rabbit would have become: Jeffrey Price and Peter S.

WIN! WIN! WIN! Celebrate Eight Great Years With a Varese Mega-Giveaway!!
It's no "Video Killed The Radio Star" on MTV, but it's still pretty cool! On January 11, 2010, a very simple Wordpress version of The Second Disc opened its digital doors. In the eight years since, a lot of stuff about the business has changed - back then, there were still four major music labels, and streaming music wasn't really a thing in the U.S. - but we think one thing has remained consistent: this has remained a hub for enthusiastic coverage of reissues, compilations, box sets and all
