On November 10, Queen returns with a new anthology – available in both single- and double-CD iterations with 20 and 36 songs, respectively – that intends to live up to its title, Queen Forever. While the collection eschews a traditional “greatest hits” approach (and with it, hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You”), it premieres three songs including a long-anticipated collaboration with the late Michael Jackson. In addition to the three “new” tracks available on both editions,
Omnivore Recordings is greeting autumn with projects from a couple of, well, big artists. As in, Roger Taylor of Queen? On October 27, Omnivore will issue the first-ever retrospective of Taylor’s solo work in anticipation of the November 11 U.S. release of his complete, all-encompassing solo box set, The Lot. After a 40-year wait, a pair of pivotal early shows by Queen will see official release, it was announced yesterday. 1974 saw the British quartet release their second album, Queen II, earn their first U.K. Top 10 single ("Seven Seas of Rhye") and embark on their first headlining tour. While some critics found a headlining slot at The Rainbow a daunting challenge for such a new band, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor sold even the most skeptical observer at their March date

Queen and Eagle Rock Entertainment will release a newly-expanded edition of their unforgettable Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert this fall, on DVD and, for the first time, Blu-Ray Disc. Five months after the tragic passing of one of rock's greatest frontmen from complications due to AIDS, surviving Queen members Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor gathered dozens of famous collaborators and famous fans at London's Wembley Arena on April 20, 1992. Some 72,000 people were in attendance, and

UPDATE (1/23/2013): Whoa, remember this? It's finally coming out to the U.S. on DVD from Eagle Rock on March 12. Pre-order it here. Original post (8/3/2011): "They're talking from here!" Freddie Mercury said, pointing to his behind and addressing rumors of Queen's breakup before a capacity crowd at Wembley Stadium on July 12, 1986. "We're gonna stay together until we fucking well die, I'm sure of it." Those chillingly prophetic words are just a moment in what may be not only Queen's finest
Queen are bringing their unique kind of magic to movie theaters everywhere with a recently resurrected European concert, and it's no surprise that the project is coming to audiovisual formats this November. Hungarian Rhapsody: Live in Budapest captures Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor on the famed Magic Tour that surged through Europe in the summer of 1986. Having proven their live energy still knew no bounds the summer before, at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid, the tour -
For all their theatricality, it was only recently that Queen were commemorated with a full-blown musical. Now, in honor of the tenth anniversary of that endeavor, We Will Rock You, a newly-remastered and expanded edition of the original cast recording is due from Island in the United Kingdom. Conceived by Queen and Ben Elton (a onetime stand-up comedian and television writer in the U.K.), We Will Rock You details the trials of youth in a dystopic future who rebel against rigid societal norms
Welcome to another installment of Reissue Theory, where we reflect on notable albums and the reissues they could someday see. On an iconic rock star's birthday, we hope for a concert celebrating his life and work to make it onto CD someday. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuqx11UOOP4] On this day, 66 years ago, Farrokh Bulsara was born in Zanzibar. The world would, of course, know him by another name: Freddie Mercury, the iconoclastic frontman for the British hard rock band Queen.
If news of the super deluxe edition of Freddie Mercury's Barcelona album didn't have enough Queen in it for you, you're in some luck now: a new compilation of the band's videos is headed to DVD at the end of the month. The band's Greatest Video Hits is a new repackaging of two earlier compilations on disc - Greatest Video Hits 1 (2002) and Greatest Video Hits 2 (2003). Together, they chronicle just about all of the band's promo videos from the 1970s and 1980s. All clips were remastered and
"I'm moving into opera now. Forget rock and roll." With those words, Queen frontman Freddie Mercury moved in on what may be the most grandiose phase in a long career full of theatrics. In 1987, with Queen not yet knowing they would have played their final live show one year before, the band's whimsical frontman ventured into uncharted waters with Barcelona, an operatic rock album featuring a talented soprano whose voice he idolized, and put one of the final great flourishes on a career (and a
