The Weekend Stream: April 4, 2026

Welcome back to another edition of The Weekend Stream, The Second Disc’s review of notable catalogue titles making digital debuts, plus new works from legacy acts and even some personally curated favorites. The elder British/Irish rock contingent is alive and well, with new music from U2, Peter Gabriel and Ringo Starr plus new remixes from Sting; there’s also quite a bit of country (from Jim Reeves and Ricky Skaggs to…Disney?) and jazz (Monk, Maynard and more) to go around. U2, Easter Lily EP (Island) (Apple / Amazon) More prolific (and present) than they’ve…

They Will Have Their Way: Legacy Plans Packed Record Store Day Slate

Is it just us, or has Record Store Day felt a little muted in recent years? Obviously the annual Black Friday celebration boasts less titles than the festivities held every April, but it’s sometimes been a struggle to identify great archival titles or worthy re-pressed discs. Well, that certainly isn’t the case this year: labels seem to have gone into overdrive stockpiling interesting LPs and singles worth a second (or first!) look – and one of the strongest showings might be Sony Music’s Legacy Recordings, who are bowing no less than 16…

A Bandcamp Friday with Prestige: Classic Jazz Label Added to Indie Music Service

Just one recommendation of sorts for April 2021’s Bandcamp Friday – but it’s a big one: 61 great albums from Prestige Records are now available to stream and download on the service. Founded by Bob Weinstock in 1949, Prestige was an early home for some of the mid-century’s most revolutionary jazz figures, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz and Thelonious Monk. The label’s output, much of it impeccably recorded by engineer Rudy Van Gelder, was a haven as hard bop gained prominence in the ’50 and free jazz helped…
