After an already-unorthodox career as one of the most unique singers of the '70s, Tom Waits went on to reinvent his idiosyncratic sound as the '80s dawned. The fruits of that labor - a five-album stint on Island Records - will be revisited this fall in a series of CD and vinyl reissues. The five albums Waits issued for the label between 1983 and 1993 - the loose trilogy Swordfishtrombones (1983), Rain Dogs (1985) and Franks Wild Years (1987), and the follow-ups Bone Machine (1992) and The
At first glance, Southside Johnny Lyon and Tom Waits might seem at disparate ends of the musical spectrum. New Jersey native Lyon is a progenitor of the Jersey Shore sound with its brassy, party-time fusion of rock & roll and rhythm & blues. California's Waits came into prominence during that state's singer-songwriter boom, touching on folk before settling into a piano-based, jazz-influenced sound that he would ultimately jettison in favor of a more experimental and avant-garde

By the middle of the '80s, Roy Orbison was primed for a comeback. The following year, The "Big O" staged the ultimate comeback concert with a remarkable lineup of guests including Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello, J.D. Souther, k.d. lang, and Jennifer Warnes. The star-studded group had

Having remastered his catalogue for Anti- Records spanning from 1999 to 2011 last year for CD and vinyl, iconoclastic singer Tom Waits will next partner with the label by turning his attention to the seven albums he released on the Asylum label during the first portion of his career. Waits and his wife and creative partner Kathleen Brennan have remastered all of Waits' studio and live output between 1973 and 1980 for CD and 180-gram LP, bringing many of the albums back into physical print
Iconoclastic singer Tom Waits is reissuing the latest part of his catalogue this winter. Waits' website recently announced remastered CD and vinyl editions of his entire Anti- catalogue, issued between 1999 and 2011. Waits and his longtime wife/musical collaborator Kathleen Brennan have personally remastered these six albums, with 2004's Real Gone receiving a new remix by Karl Derfler. The titles will release roughly in reverse chronological order: 2011's Bad As Me streets next Friday,
Over the past several years, Roy's Boys, the company founded by Roy Orbison's sons to administer his catalogue, have put together several reissue projects celebrating the immense legacy of the late artist. These have included a comprehensive box set of his years on the MGM label for Universal and a one-disc career-spanning greatest hits from Legacy Recordings. They are teaming up with Legacy again to celebrate one of Orbison's landmark performances with Black &White Night 30, due to be
Who but Neil Young could have brought The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, Ben Harper, Eddie Vedder, Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, and Los Lonely Boys together on the same stage? Though Young is an easy target for what can appear as a capricious attitude towards his back catalogue – announcing, then delaying or cancelling titles with alarming frequency – one aspect of the man’s great legacy cannot be in dispute, and that is his philanthropy. Since 1986, Young and his wife Pegi have offered
Tom Waits' voice may not be for everyone, but there were bigger problems than that to notice on the recent repressings of his first four albums on red vinyl from Rhino. The reissues, put out several months back, have been plagued with sporadic problems that seem to lie with the mastering or transfer onto vinyl. Fortunately, Anti- Records has begun an exchange program and promised their customers that these problems will be corrected and avoided for future vinyl reissues of the Waits
